Raptors Potential Boycott

The NBA is at the fore front of human rights and in particular social justice for the African American community. Its seems that in the year of 2020 their is one after another death of African Americans in the hands of police. The latest was the shooting of Jacob Blake that has just added to the already intense times.

Many NBA players and coaches have spoken out lately. Doc Rivers had some powerful words said the other night. After a resent meeting between the Toronto Raptors and the Boston Celtics their are rumors that a boycott of their playoff series may happen. Raptors Head Coach Nick Nurse said, “Boycotting the game has come up to them to demand a little more attention,”.  “It is ongoing discussions. I think it is on the table. There’s some other ideas on the table as well.” Fred VanVleet told reporters "What are we willing to give up? Do we actually give a fuck about what's going on, or is it just cool to have Black Lives Matter on the backdrop or wearing a T-shirt?".

If that does happen I don’t know how effective it will be, because it feels like the reason the NBA can do things like this is that most of their fans agree with them. With the NFL the have a harder time being public with things like this with their more Republican heavy fan base. Or at least that’s what it feels like.
